International Cooperation

The Department of Asian Studies is actively involved in strengthening international ties, achieved through:

- cooperation with diplomatic offices, namely the Embassy of the PRC in the Czech Republic, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Prague, Japanese Embassy in the Czech Republic, Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the Czech Republic, Royal Thai Embassy in the Czech Republic

- cooperation and inter-university agreements with the Gakushuin Women’s College of Tokyo and Utsunomiya University particularly on the basis of teacher and student exchange programmes

- preparations for cooperation with Taiwan’s National Cheng Kung University in Tainan and National Cheng Chih University in Taipei

- the presence of foreign lecturers from the PRC, Japan, Republic of Korea and the Kingdom of Thailand

- scholarship visits by officials from the Ministry of Education of the PRC, Ministry of Education of the Republic of China (Taiwan), and the Ministry of Education of Japan

- a grant by the Chiang Ching-kuo foundation to create an associate professor position for Lucie Olivová, Ph.D.: her position at the department was financially covered by the foundation in the three year period 2004 -2007

- a grant  by the Korean Foundation to establish the field of Korean studies at the PhF UP; the employment of Mgr. Park Mi-Young, Ph.D. is solely funded by this foundation

- cooperation with the National Museum of Taiwan Literature which financed the publishing of the book The Taste of Apples: modern Taiwanese stories (Praha: Brody, 2006)

- participation at international conferences and workshops (PRC, Estonia, Germany, Slovenia, Slovakia, etc.)

- membership of faculty members in organizations such as EACS and EATS
