Chinese Philology

Bachelor’s degree single and double-major study programmes

The requirements for studying the Bachelor’s degree in Chinese Philology include a genuine interest in the field, sufficient command of the Czech and English languages at the level of the school-leaving exams and a general knowledge of Chinese facts and culture.  Knowledge of the Chinese language is not necessary.

Master’s degree single and double-major follow-up study programmes

The prerequisite for admission into the Master’s follow-up study programmes in Chinese Philology is the successful completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Chinese Philology or a related undergraduate study programme focused on the fields of Chinese language and culture.  Further requirements include a knowledge of the Chinese language at the level of B2 for the spoken word, B1 for reading and A2 for writing, and also a general knowledge of Chinese facts and culture at the level of the Bachelor’s state final exams.

Japanese Philology

Bachelor’s degree single-major study programme

As part of the department entrance exam, candidates must demonstrate a genuine interest in the field as indicated by familiarity with Japanese geography, history and other general knowledge at a level broader then what is taught at secondary schools.  Furthermore it is assumed that candidates are familiar with Japanese literature and culture on the basis of having read Czech translations of well-known novels and other publications.  While knowledge of Japanese is not necessary, a sufficient command of the Czech and English languages at the level of the school-leaving exams is expected. 

Master’s degree single-major follow-up study programme

The prerequisite for admission into the Master’s follow-up study programmes in Japanese Philology is the successful completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Japanese Philology or a related undergraduate study programme focused on the fields of Japanese language and culture. 

At the oral interview, candidates are given questions about the field that they are applying to.  Also, a discussion follows exploring the candidate’s prior field(s) of study and future field of interest.  The discussion is based on a 3 page written project that candidates must prepare and bring with them to the interview, which outlines their future master’s thesis.   

Bachelor’s degree double-major study programme

The requirement for entry into the Bachelor’s degree study programme in Japanese Philology is a genuine interest in the field, sufficient command of the Czech and English languages at the level of the school-leaving exams and a general knowledge of Japanese facts and culture.  Knowledge of the Japanese language is not necessary.

Master’s degree double-major follow-up study programme

The prerequisite for admission to the Master’s follow-up study programmes in Japanese Philology is the successful completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Japanese Philology or a related undergraduate study programme focused on the fields of Japanese language and culture.  Further requirements include a knowledge of the Japanese language and a general knowledge of Japanese facts and culture at the level of the Bachelor’s state final exams.

Japanese for Business and Commerce

The requirement for entry into the Bachelor’s degree study programme in Japanese Philology is a genuine interest in the field, sufficient command of the Czech and English languages at the level of the school-leaving exams and a general knowledge of Japanese facts and culture.  Knowledge of the Japanese language is not necessary.
